최근 10년 동안 국내 고등교육기관에 입학한 외국인 유학생 수는 2012년말의 86,878명으로부터 2022년 166,892명으로 빠르게 성장하였다(교육부, 2022). 국내 외국인 유학생들은 한국과의 문화적인 차이가 가져오는 어려움으로 인해 문화진입 스트레스, 학업 스트레스 등 다양한 문제를 겪고 있다.
이와 관련하여 소셜 미디어의 긍정적인 기능을 고려할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 재한 외국인 유학생들의 SNS 이용을 자세히 살펴보고, SNS 이용 행태가외국인 유학생에 대한 문화적응 스트레스의 완화 역할을 탐구하며, 그 과정에서 영향을 줄 수 있는 심리적 특성에 대해 분석하였다. 그 결과, SNS 이용은중국인들이 제공해주는 사회적 지지와 한국인들이 제공해주는 사회적 지지에정적(+)인 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났고 특히, 한국인이 제공하는 사회적지지는 문화적응 스트레스와 부적(-)인 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, SNS 이용은 주관적 안녕감에도 긍정적인 영향을 주었으며, 주관적 안녕감 역시 문화적응 스트레스를 줄일 수 있는데 영향을 주는 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 SNS의 긍정적인 역할을 탐구해 볼 수 있는 결과로 파악된다. 이와 같은결과를 통해 재한 외국인 유학생들이 한국 사회에 성공적으로 정착하여 유학생활을 마치고 친한 인재로 양성되는 것에 실질적인 도움이 되고자 한다.
Based on statistics from the Ministry of Education, in the last 10 years, the number of foreign students studying in Korean is rapidly growing rom 86,878 (2012) to 166,892 (2022), among which Chinese students occupy the most important position. Chinese students are experiencing various difficulties such as acculturation stress and academic stress. In this regard, it is necessary to consider the positive function of social media. Therefore, this purpose of this study is to explore 1) the use of SNS by foreign students in Korea, 2) the role of SNS to alleviate the foreign students’ acculturation stress, 3) and also analyzes the psychological characteristics that may further affect the process. The results showed that the use of SNS has a positive effect on the Chinese people’s social support and the Koreans’ social support. Especially, the social support provided by Koreans can effectively reduce acculturation stress. In addition, SNS usage has a positive effect on subjective well-being and subjective well-being has been proved played a positive role in alleviating the acculturation stress. Through these results, the significant role of SNS usage in helping foreign students to settle successfully in Korean society after graduating from their university in Korean can be seen.
