[국내자료/학술지] 석소원.2021.사회복지로 전공을 바꾼 유학생들의 진로발달에 관한 내러티브 탐구

[초록]

본 연구에서는 사회복지로 전공을 바꾼 유학생들의 진로발달 경험을 내러티브 탐구에 기반해 이해하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 Clandinnin과 Connelly(2000)가 제안한 내러티브 탐구 절차에 따라 연구했으며, 전공을 변경하여 국내 사회복지학과 대학원에 진학한 유학생 4명과 온·오프라인의 다원적 방식으로 심도 있게 소통하였다. 연구참여자들의 면담자료는 시간성, 장소, 사회성의 세 가지 차원에서 접근하였고, 개별적 경험의 맥락과 공통적인 특성의 내러티브가 서로 어우러져 드러날 수 있게 탐험했다. 분석에 따르면, 연구참여자들은 사회복지라는 낯선 분야에 진입하여 각자의 삶의 맥락 아래에서 여러 가지 부적응을 경험하였으나, 동시에 한국 유학의 의미와 사회복지학 전공의 가치를 느끼며 계속해서 진로를 계발하는 것을 확인했다. 이에 더하여, 이들은 사회복지를 공부함으로써 자기 성장을 확신하게 되었을 뿐 아니라 전공 변경에 따른 진로 성숙을 도전의 기회로 여기고 있었다. 연구결과를 반영하여 사회복지로 전공을 바꾼 유학생들의 진로발달을 위한 실효성 있는 지원 대책을 제언하였다.

This research aims to understand the career development experience of the international students who have changed their majors to social welfare, based on the narrative exploration. To this end, the authors used the narrative exploration procedure proposed by Clandinnin and Connelly (2000) and had online and offline in-depth multi-dimensional communication with four international students who entered the Graduate School of the Department of Social Welfare in Korea. The study participants’ stories were approached in three dimensions: Time, place, and sociability, and explored such that the context of their individual experiences and common narrative could be revealed in a harmonious way. According to the analysis, the participants entered an unfamiliar field called social welfare and experienced various maladjustment under the context of their own lives. At the same time, it was found that they are constantly developing their careers, as they reflect on the meaning of studying in Korea and the value of social welfare major. In addition, by studying social welfare, they not only became convinced of their own growth, but also viewed career maturity following the change in majors as a challenge. Based on the results of the study, suggestions were provided to support effective development for international students who have changed their majors to social welfare studies.
