대학 내 외국인 유학생 비율이 급증하고 있는 현시점에서, 본 연구는 보호된 내용 수업(sheltered content instruction)에 대한 외국인 유학생들의 인식을 분석하여, 전공 교육의 방법으로서 보호된 내용 수업이 갖는 적절성을 확인하고 향후 전공 교육과정의 개발 및 개편을 위한 시사점을 도출해 보고자 하였다. 이에 보호된 내용 수업이 적용된 전공 강의를 수강한 외국인 유학생 102명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, SPSS 21.0을 활용하여 그 결과를 분석하였다. 외국인 유학생들은 보호된 내용수업 수강에 상당한 자신감을 나타냈으며, 학생들 스스로 매우 높은 수준의 학습 내용에 대한 이해, 교수자 언어에 대한 이해가 이루어지고 있다고 인식하고 있었다. 또한, 보호된 내용 수업에 대한 선호도와 향후 수강 희망 또한 높게 나타나, 보호된 내용 수업에 대한 외국인 유학생의 전반적인 인식이 상당히 긍정적인 것으로 분석되었다. 마지막으로 조사된 의견을 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 교수자 재교육등 보호된 내용 수업의 적용을 위한 방안을 제언하였다.
In the current context of a rapid increase in the proportion of international students within universities, this study aims to analyze the perception of international students regarding sheltered content instruction applied in major courses. To achieve this goal, a survey was conducted on 102 international students who took major courses with sheltered content instruction. The results can be summarized as follows. Firstly, international students expressed considerable confidence in major courses with sheltered content instruction, perceiving a high level of understanding of the content and the Korean language used by the instructors.
Additionally, their preference for sheltered content instruction and their desire for future enrollment were both high, indicating an overall positive perception of sheltered content instruction. Based on the opinions collected, this study provides recommendations for implementing sheltered content instruction, including faculty retraining.
