[초록]


본고는 외국인 유학생의 지속적인 전공 한국어 쓰기 능력 함양을 위해, 학부 교육과정에 ‘전공연계글쓰기(WAC)’를 적용하는 방안을 모색하였다. 이를 위해 해외 대학의 WAC 운영 사례를 분석하고 이를 바탕으로 국내 대학에서 유학생을 위한 WAC 적용의 가능성을 살폈다.
 해외 대학의 사례를 분석한 결과, 다음과 같은 시사점을 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, WAC은 전공 단위로 교육과정 전체를 가로질러 구성되어 운영되는 것이 이상적이다.
 국내 상황을 고려하여 유학생을 대상으로 한 WAC을 운영할 때 이를 고려해야 한다.
 둘째, 해당 전공에서 학생들이 갖추어야 할 전공 글쓰기 능력이 무엇인지 전공 교수자들이 논의하고 교육과정에 반영해야 한다. 셋째, 글쓰기 전문가와의 협업이 필요하며, 정기적 워크숍을 통해 WAC에 대한 이해와 글쓰기 피드백 교육이 진행되어야 한다. 넷째, WAC 운영 및 WI 수업 설계에 대한 지침이 구체적으로 마련되어야 한다. 다섯째, 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 한 2~3학년 WI 교과목은 이들이 다중문화 문식성을충분히 발휘할 수 있는 내용의 수업으로 구성되어야 한다.
 이러한 시사점을 바탕으로 하되, 본고는 국내 대학의 상황을 고려하여, 외국인 유학생 중심 학부의 경우와 그렇지 않은 학부의 경우로 구분하여 WAC 개발 및 운영의방향을 제안하였다. 본고는 WAC이 안착되기 어려운 현 대학 상황에서, 오히려 전공한국어교육의 일환으로 전공 글쓰기 교육이 절실한 유학생 대상 교육과정 및 교과목에서 WAC을 적용할 수 있다는 가능성을 보였다는 데에 의의가 있다.


There is growing concern over the challenges faced by international undergraduate students in class, due to their lack of Korean language proficiency in disciplinary writing. The aim of the present study is to suggest ways to develop a program applying Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) for international undergraduate students to improve their Korean writing in the disciplines through an analysis of the development and implementation of WAC programs abroad. In addition, in consideration of the Korean context, this study suggests two different ways of WAC development and implementation on the bias of the structure of the department: departments exclusively for the international students, and departments having both domestic and international students. It has been difficult for the WAC program to settle down due to lack of faculty support and participation in various disciplines. However, the present study also stresses the possibility of applying WAC in a curriculum designed for international students that caters to the need of the Korean students for additional writing courses in their discipline of study.
