COVID-19가 장기화되면서 앞으로 교육 현장에서도 많은 변화가 있을 것이라는 예측과 함께 새로운 교육 환경을 대비해야 하는 상황에 직면하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 학부유학생을 대상으로 팀기반 학습(Team-Based Learning)을 적용한 실시간 온라인 한국어 수업 사례를 제시하고 TBL을 적용한 수업 결과를 분석하였다.
학습자들은 TBL 수업의 장점에 대해서 동료간의 상호작용과 교수자와의 상호작용이가능했던 점을 가장 우선으로 꼽았다. 반면에 조별 토론이나 발표 준비 시 비대면으로 진행하는 것에 대한 어려움이 있었다고 응답하였다. 흥미로운 것은 비대면 상황에서의 조별발표를 준비하는 것에 어려움이 많았다고 토로하면서도 TBL 수업을 통해서 많은 것을 배울 수 있었으며 수업에 대해 전반적으로 만족한다는 의견이 많았다는 점이다.
연구 결과를 바탕으로 실시간 온라인 한국어 수업에서의 팀기반 학습(Team-Based Learning)을 성공적으로 이끌기 위한 제언을 하자면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 온라인 기반 TBL 수업에서는 게시판을 적극적으로 활용하는 것이 좋다. 둘째, 교수자는 면대면 수업보다 더욱더 철저하게 수업 설계를 하고 수업 내용이나 TBL 활동에 대한 안내 등을 더 상세히 명확하게 설명해야 한다. 셋째, 실시간 온라인 수업을 위한 온라인 시스템이 안정적으로 잘갖추어져 있어야 한다.
한국과 베트남, 중국에서 수업에 참여한 학습자들이 팀기반 학습(Team Based Learning)을 성공적으로 수행하였으며, 이를 통하여 추후 더 다양한 교수학습 방법을 적용하면 온라인 수업의 한계점을 극복할 수 있다는 가능성을 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과는앞으로 효과적인 온라인 교육을 설계하는 데에 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
Owing to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, we had to prepare for a new educational environment with the expectation of future changes in the educational field. Therefore, in this study, a real-time online Korean language class case applying Team-Based Learning (TBL) was presented to undergraduate international students. The first priority was the possible interaction among learners, and that between learners and instructors. The learners responded that there were difficulties in conducting non-face-to-face discussions while preparing for group discussions or presentations. Interestingly, while complaining regarding difficulties in preparing for a group presentation in a non-face-to-face situation, many believed they could learn through group discussions and presentation classes, and that they were generally satisfied with the class.
The results suggest three requirements for successfully leading TBL in real-time online Korean classes: first, it is recommended to actively use the bulletin board during online-based TBL classes; second, instructors should design online classes more thoroughly than face-to-face classes, and explain the contents of classes or guidance on TBL activities in greater detail; and third, the online system for real-time online classes should be stably equipped.
Learners who participated in classes in Korea, Vietnam, and China successfully conducted TBL, which was not easy during face-to-face classes. Therefore, the limitations of online classes should be addressed by adopting more teaching and learning methods in the future. The results of this study are meaningful as they can be used as basic data for designing effective online education in the future.
