The purpose of this study was to figure out the motivation and the meaning of participation in the physical education class as the liberal arts classes for international students. For this purpose, qualitative research was adopted. The research environment was selected as A university. The final participants were selected from eight international students who attended more than one semester. The motivation for international students to participate in liberal arts education is: First, class-free classes: Retaking-free classes, second, class without language stress: active advice from students. Third, Class with more specialized systems than in own country: educational expertise such as sports skill and knowledge, and finally, “Economical” class for international students: “Enjoying Sports” best environmental benefits. The meaning of participation in physical education class as liberal arts course was shown as follows. First, the breakthrough stress of study and the life in study abroad: sports, second, starting point of Korean cultural adaptation: expansion of social network, third, Physical Education Mania: opportunities to take other liberal arts courses, fourth, breaking the image of strangers: breaking down barriers through active registration and use of campus sports facilities. fifth, physical and emotional effects: living a healthy student life. Looking at the above results, international students have had difficulties in studying abroad, adapting to college, interpersonal relations, and cultural adaptation. However, it can be seen that the liberal arts education has a positive effect directly or indirectly in a large framework.
