[논문 초록]
이 글은 ‘지역문화자원’을 활용하여 외국인 유학생을 대상으로 한국문화교육 수업 사례를 제시하고, 이를 통해 한국문화교육의 교육방법에 대한 구체성을 획득하는 데 기여하고자 하였다. 목표 언어에 대한 습득은 언어적 지식뿐만 아니라 목표 언어에 대한 문화적 이해가 병행될 때 효율적으로 이루어 질 수 있다. 이 글에서 제안하는 수업은 “지역문화자원을 활용한 지역문화지도 만들기”이다. ‘지역문화자원을 활용한 지역문화지도 만들기’ 수업은 100분 수업을 1차시로 하여 모두 5차시에 걸쳐 단계별로 구성되며, 팀 기반 학습으로 진행된다. 이 강좌는 대학의 교양 수업으로서, 외국인유학생들의 한국어 의사소통 능력 향상을 목표로 개설된 것이다. 그러므로 지역문화지도 만들기 수업 또한 한국어 쓰기 및 읽기, 말하기와 연계하여 진행되었다. 1차시에는 팀 별로 지역문화자원지도의 콘셉트를 정하게 된다. 2차시에는 팀원 개별로 조사한 자료를 바탕으로 조별 활동을 통해 개요를 작성하게 된다. 개요를 작성한 후, 개인별로 담당 문화에 대한 설명문을 작성한다. 콘셉트와 개요는 조별 활동을 통해 정하지만, 설명문 쓰기는 개인별로 활동함으로써 글쓰기 역량을 향상시킬 수 있도록 한다. 3차시에는 스토리라인을 작성하게 된다. 스토리라인은 문화수업으로서의 목표를 달성하기 위해 고안된 것이다. 담당교수가 직접 스토리라인을 정해 주어, 학생들은 스토리라인의 빈 칸을 채워가면서 대상에 대해 깊게 이해하게 된다. 또한 문화의 상대성에 대해 강의를 통해 설명하는 것이 아니라, 수강생들 스스로 스토리라인의 빈칸을 채워나감으로써 자국의 문화와 한국의 문화를 비교할 수 있도록 유도한다. 4차시에는 작성한 설명문과 스토리라인을 바탕으로 핵심어와 시청각 자료를 활용하여 프레젠테이션을 작성하게 된다. 5차시에는 프레젠테이션 발표를 진행한다. 발표자 한 명을 정하여 발표를 진행하는 것이 아니라, 자신이 작성한 부분을 각자 발표하고 질의응답은 조별로 진행함으로써 모든 수강생이 발표의 기회를 갖고 연습할 수 있도록 한다
The objective of this study is to present a Korean cultural education plan for international students using ‘local cultural resources’. As the number of international students in Korea keeps increasing, Korean language teaching has been brought into sharp focus in order to improve their communication skills. Research on the teaching of Korean as a foreign language has been actively carried out and a breadth of teaching methods have been suggested and implemented to generate and increase learners’ motivation for learning Korean. However, it can be said that so far Korean language education has mainly focused on the learner’s communication skills. Language acquisition is successfully achieved not only with linguistic knowledge but also with a cultural understanding of the target language. This paper advocates the necessity of Korean cultural education and aims to devise a concrete teaching method of Korean cultural education by presenting an example of a cultural education class for international students. The lesson proposed in this study is titled “Making a local cultural map using local cultural resources”. Multiculturalism constitutes the philosophical foundation of cultural education. In other words, it is necessary to acknowledge cultural plurality and understand cultural differences in order to establish one’s identity and integrate another culture. Based on the understanding of local culture and Korean culture, this class also compares and contrasts elements of the Korean culture with similar cultural elements of the students’ own countries so as to make them aware of cultural relativism.
