본 연구는 국내 대학에 재학 중인 외국인 유학생의 온라인 학문 공동체 활동을 살펴보고, 지식이 구성되는 과정을 개별적 지식 구성-개별적 지식의 외면화-사회적 성찰-공유된 이해-사회적 지식의 외면화의 다섯 단계로 구분하였다. 또한 외국인 유학생의 학문 공동체 활동 중 나타나는 메시지를 인지적, 사회적, 운영적, 메타인지적 차원에서 분석해 보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 총 6명의 외국인 유학생들로 구성된 학문 공동체를 구성하였으며 온라인 화상회의 플랫폼을 통해 공동의 학문적 과제를 수행하도록 하였다. 그 결과 각 차원에서 외국인 유학생들의 학문 수행 과정과 상호작용을 드러내는 메시지를 관찰할 수 있었다. 또한 온라인 학습 활동 중에 외국인 학습자들이 과제 수행과 관련하여 개인적‧사회적 자원과 노하우를 공유하는 메시지가 나타나는 등 학문 공동체가 가지는 순기능도 살펴볼 수 있었다. 본 연구를 통해 제시된 결과는 외국인 유학생들의 학문 공동체 활동에 대한 이해를 높여 향후 온라인 학습 활동을 설계하고 운영할 때 기초 자료로서 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
This study aims to examine the online academic community activities of
international students attending Korean universities. In this study, the process of
knowledge construction was divided into five stages: individual knowledge
construction, externalization of individual knowledge, social reflection, sharing
understanding, and externalization of social knowledge. Additionally, the
messages exchanged during the academic community activities were analyzed
from cognitive, social, operational, and metacognitive perspectives. For the
analysis, an academic community was formed with six international students, and a common academic task was performed through an online video conferencing
platform. The results showed that it was possible to observe messages revealing
the academic performance and interaction of international students in the
cognitive, social, operational, and metacognitive dimensions. Furthermore, it was possible to examine the positive functions of the academic community, such as messages that international students shared with each other through personal and
social resources and know-how while performing academic tasks. The results
presented in this study can serve as basic data when designing and operating
future online learning activities by increasing the understanding of international
students’ academic community activities.
